why are people saying no? a mental illness doesn't define a person and anyway, people can recover from depression - even if very severe, and schizophrenia can be managed. Why is there such a stigma attached to mental illness? I can't understand why anyone would not even consider dating someone with a mental illness.

Yes I would consider it and then would have to base my decision finally on who they were as a person. My fiance has Bi polar disorder as well as Autism and I spent a lot of time before we got together researching what I might expect and the best way to deal with both his manic and depressive episodes. I also sat down and spoke to him about it and asked as many questions as I could. I made the decision that it was a risk I was willing to take and I have to admit that it was the best decision I have ever made.

no I would not because it will reek havoc on my life. Having said that there is a guy with schizophrenia he walks around talking to himself so I guess he hears voices and he has been unwashed in the same clothes for weeks so I feel sorry for him but that's it. I'm curious to know about him but that's all.
