Your tv will only display what it is being feed. What type of cable are you using to connect your game console. You should at less use the component cable (Red, Green and Blue 3 RCA jack) and optical cable for the audio. This will give you the best possible video for your tv. Most game console have a setting on what type of cable you use to give you the best picture. The composite cable (Yellow rca jack for the video and the Red and White for the Audio is not going to give the best picture. Hope this will h elp you out.

That's not how it works. You need to connect a HD source to the TV in order for the TV to display in HD. You also need to connect it with HD cables like component or HDMI

Your TV screen is 720p and that never changes. The little message you see saying "480i" (or anything else) is telling you the resolution of your source (your incoming signal). So your game box is sending 480i to the TV. Get into its setup menu if you can and change it to 720p. Do the same thing with any other source you ever connect to the TV like a DVD player or cable box.
