This all happened because of media and how they say people should look like.

It's just society and the media's perception of what women should look like. You should do whatever you feel comfortable.

In the US, it seems to have started in the 1920's and 30's with underarm shaving when more sleeveless dresses were introduced. Legs shaving started when women began wearing shorter dresses and pants. With sheer hose, it looked better without hair. Since then we have been brought up to believe that is the way it should be. I have to admit that I don't like hair on women, especially underarm hair and I don't like much on men either. For some reason it has been OK for men to be hairy most of the time as long as it isn't too much. Many people still think it looks 'manly'. I don't understand this personally, although some men look just fine with body hair. Beards on men has been fine forever in all cultures, but shaving other parts is still not an easy sell in most parts of the world. Personally, I don't understand why people who believe in evolution and what Darwin said about us evolving from apes think that having a lot of body hair is alright. Seems like we would want to distance ourselves from looking like the animals. You are not over-generalizing the idea. Most men don't like much hair on women. It is the way we were taught. Since women don't have as much hair as men, and it is much finer, it is easy to believe that you shouldn't have any at all and men are the only ones who should.

Cultural grooming norms change over time for men and for women. In the 1800's most of the men had beards. Now most men shave every day. No fun but you just get used to it. In the 60's it wasn't uncommon for women to have more body hair. In the 90's and 00's clean shaven became the norm. I read an article recently that pubic hair is coming back. In reality, do what you want. No partner worth having is going to toss you because you have a little more or a little less hair.
