Yeah tube is way better quality. The Bottles tend to be more watery, and can also be grainy. The tube is like a big tube of creamy soft wonderful paint. It's much thicker. A good quality tube is probably alright. But a cheap brand tube (like dollar store) is going to be watery and less substantial. You'll find you might have trouble getting a solid layer out of it.. And grains are never fun.

The quality of paint is determined by the quality of the pigment. Artist quality paint will be more expensive and better quality than student grade paint. Student grade paint will be more expensive and better quality than craft acrylic paint. I use Golden Acrylics (artist quality) - I like their Fluid Acrylic in bottles as I prefer to paint very wet. But Golden has paint in tubes that is the same quality, just thicker for a different kind of painting (different additives but same quality of pigment). What paint to get is up to how you prefer to paint and what you can afford. I'm a professional freelance artist. I use artist quality paints for the quality and so the pigment won't fade.

The tubes are normally higher quality and more concentrated. They have beautiful results, but I prefer bottles. I use craftsmart which is meant for crafts. I like it better because it's easier to clean off my brushes and it's easier to splatter onto canvas. Plus, as you pointed out, it's cheaper.
