Modern cars are designed with wind resistance in mind, in order to reduce drag and increase gas mileage. Older cars were not built that way.

Mostly because when people want to buy a NEW car, they want it to LOOK like a NEW car. If they wanted to drive an OLD car, there are plenty of them for sale out there.

Personally I think that is a great idea. VW even made a retro van for a car show, that looked great. Would love to buy one. But never came to market.
