Religions teach that god has chosen a specific group as the "chosen people." All others and all who think differently are infidels. The real difference is in cultures, but when everyone belongs to the same religion, race problems become religious conflicts.

Because most religious people (in the West, Latin America, and Africa) are one of the Abrahamic religions....all of which have a "Chosen People" as a basic foundation. Judaism and Islam were very specifically created to announce the racial superiority of the Jews and Arabs respectively. It's very easy to tack on "race" to "belief" as a cause of inferiority.

That was its original intent. Consider the ethnic atrocities committed by god in the bible.

it doesn't go well with racial/ethnic intolerance love thy neighbour and love thy enemy which is a part of christianity has no intolerance in it
