There's no expiration of the hours you log in training, but the longer you go between lessons, the more you forget and the less proficient you are. I've had many re-start students who had to re-do a large portion of their training. Not only that, if you continue with a different school or instructor, from a legal standpoint they will need to see that you've properly learned everything despite what has already been logged, which means you'll fly extra hours just to prove your skills to them. They cannot legally approve you for a solo or flight test if they have not personally reviewed ALL the maneuvers and procedures. Therefore, the smartest approach to flight training is to have most or all the funds saved ahead of time, to fly as often as you can, and to keep at it until you finish without a major interruption.
