Sometimes people get married when they aren't sure because so much public attention has been paid to the upcoming wedding....between engagement parties, gown shopping, wedding planning.....it can all be a lot of pressure to complete the deal. A lot of people are told that their doubts are just "cold feet" and that will all go away after the wedding......but as a happily married woman, I can tell you that I never had cold feet about my husband.....I had a ton of drama around the wedding (budgets, divorced parents not getting along, stepsister throwing jealous fits on the country club lawn in front of guests)....but I was sure and calm about my decision to marry my husband.

You are confusing two different things. Romantic love, as a bases for marriage, in relatively new. For most of history marriages were arranged and were considered a business proposition and that served society well. Which probably answers your question. You should look at marriage as a long term contract, not a fancy party where you get to wear a great dress.
