People from many parts of the world visit other countries more than Americans do, and they find it odd that citizens of the richest, most-developed country are not so well-traveled. They may assume, since you don't match their stereotype of American appearance, that you must have a close connection to some other land, and therefore you must certainly leave the US to visit there. In my experience, our insularity surprises most people who are not familiar with the US.

Do you mean an American of Asian descent? If so, I don't think I've ever heard that. So your question is like "why do pancakes look and tate just like roast beef?".
