Perestroyka abandoned the censorship which was important for maintenance the dominance over people by the communist party (this was the reason of the uprising in borderline soviet republics). Economy was weakened by the attempts to confine making all the decisions in the centre. Coup attempt failed and Yeltsin was stronger leader than Gorbachev. Later attempts to remove the dominance of Yeltsin (for example the uprising in Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation) was suppressed.
