He said that because he felt like that. It is true that one sentence is not enough for describing what is music. Music is like a sea, we can't understand what it is until we reach the depth.

Music can do a lot more than make you want to dance, it can bring back a moment in time, make you cry, make you laugh, it can move you, heal you. Music brought me out of a deep depression. Certain songs bring me back to a time when I was truly able to say I was happy. Somehow it cuts deep when your growing up. Beethoven felt this when he would write music, play music. It elevated him to heights nothing else could. He was a master and he realized his own potential and was able to make others realize it too through the music he gave the world.

The philosopher Schopenhauer said much the same, and perhaps from him it doesn't seem so occupationally self-interested. "Music is ... by no means like the other arts, the copy of the Ideas, but the copy of the will itself, whose objectivity these ideas are." The metaphysics behind that statement would take a bit of explaining, but the gist of it is: listening to music gets us to the really real of the world in a way no other experience can.

He is absolutely right. Where intellect fails music wins because music is an end in itself; it doesn’t serve purposes .
