Recession, people stop eating out so much.

Probably due to the ongoing eurozone crisis making it harder to have a foreseeable stable business.

Do you have figures to back that up? My impression is that the numbers have increased, Starbucks, Costa and Nero coffee shops seem to be on every high street, as well as shops selling smoothies and pretzels. Subway are opening at a great rate and the older fast food restaurants are still growing. The only type that is definitely shrinking is the pub, due to cheaper drink from supermarkets and the higher taxes they pay
