This is completely true. I hate it. But its done for the appeal and perfection that girls dream of. Kind of the grown up version of "Prince Charming", I guess.

The characters are made so attractive because readers are naturally inclined to sympathize/like the characters that are good looking. It's stupid to have those unrealistic characters, but books need to have readers, and legions of young girls love reading about those types of "supernatural lovers."

I don't understand it either. In all reality, since the love interest IS supernatural, I'd rather he be average, even awkward, in every other way. Maybe he's shy, tone-deaf, a little chubby, a Star Trek geek, number 1 rank in the school, the benchwarmer on the basketball team. It would really make it a whole lot more interesting. Especially if the girl doesn't believe he's supernatural because of that (maybe she's a lover of the cliché supernatural boys too).
