This sounds like one of those families that you'll never really like to be with. If it was me, I would send my husband on his own. This doesn't sound like love, peace and goodwill to me. I wouldn't have gone anywhere on icy roads. It's not worth losing your life. It would have been a great excuse for staying home with your husband and kids to start making your own holiday tradtions. Maybe if the inlaws visit at your house they'll be more civilized.

They are ignorant people. You can imagine what they are saying about you when you are not around. Sadly, some people are like that. Hopefully, your husband supports, and agrees with you. Maybe you can move several hundred miles away.
