German Empire lasted until 1918 It had parts of: Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Russia.

Before 1914, Germany was never actually a country or a nation as we know it but was a confederation of independent German states, each with its own king or duke. The Emperor was always from the dominant state of Prussia and was not the Emperor of Germany but was the German Emperor. Some of the states in the union were Prussia, Bavaria, Baden and Holstein,

Kristian is right, in modern terms. But note that the whole of Europe, especially central and eastern Europe, was very different before 1914. Czechoslovakia, independent Poland, Estonia, etc did not exist before 1914. And note that Germany only unified in 1871 - previously a bunch of sometimes squabbling princedoms, provinces, etc. And note that its borders changed substantially in 1871, in 1920, in 1945, and (by re-unification) in 1989. Steve is wrong when he says "that's all". And he means only parts of those countries. Only a historical atlas will give you a good idea of how that part of central./eastern Europe looked at those dates.
