That is a difficult question to answer without more background on what you are looking to get out of your gap year. If you just want to travel and are looking to see the sites, Europe is easy to get around and you'll run into a lot of other like-minded wanderers. If you want to learn a language, pick a country or region (Latin and S. America for Spanish for example) that would allow you to practice and study that language. If you want to have a lot of new experiences and contribute, there are many structured programs where you could help/volunteer, things like Habitat for Humanity International (, WWOOF (, you can also find a community of others pursuing their GAP year and opportunities of activities to get involved with while you're out exploring: That should get you started on the potential. It's a big world and you can learn a ton and change your life, and completely transform your perspective when you organize your gap year constructively.
