Cavatore is a great Italian Restaurant that is a 100 year old barn converted. Not terribly expensive. Perry's Steakhouse is wonderful. Go to their website and check out the pork chop! Houston is a very big place. What part of town do you live in???? The Aquarium downtown is nice. Several fun places on the Kemah Boardwalk. Brix in the Vintage on 249 is nice. The Cheesecake Factory or PF Chang's in the Woodlands. Bucca de Beppo is great. Babin's seafood. Maggiano's near the Galleria. A hibachi restaurant is always fun.

Some of my favorites( that according to open table are not too expensive) are: Americas Costa Brava Fratelli's Heresay Gastro Lounge Ibiza Sorrel Have your parents check their websites to see if they are too expensive. Here are a few more very good options not on opentable: Crisp BRC Mia Bella Latin Bites Liberty Kitchen Regarding other reviews: Cavatore is OK Maggiano's offers 2 for 1 deals and is pretty good Perry's porkchop friday is worth checking into (but is generally a more expensive place) Red Onion ( Seafood Y Mas is closed but heir main restaurant is still open) is a good choice Mockingbird Bistro is nice and expensive. I don't like Babins, the Aquarium or PF Changs. Happy birthday and happy dining! Be sure to tell the restaurant its your birthday. They might give you a free dessert or something.

Maggiano's in the Galleria are would be my pick. The food is fantastic and the service is great. They look a bit upscale, but the prices are not bad for what you get. If you want something a little different, you can try Red Onion Seafood y Mas.

AAA diamond ratings are a good guide. We've been to one 5 diamond and several 4 diamond rated restaurants and they've been amazing experiences. I don't know what you mean by not too expensive. Find the well rated restaurants and then look them up online to get an idea of price. If you can't get info, call the restaurant and they will tell you. Make reservations when you go to a nice restaurant. They will usually ask you if it is a special occasion. Reserve early as nice restaurants in a big city can fill up quickly. Also, ask about a dress code.
