Well for Texas has them through the end of 1976. It is a free website. Ancestry.Com has them for North Carolina through 1975. It isn't free but many public libraries have a subscription to it you can use for free. As a rule death certificates aren't online. Now Ted Pack, our handsome and witty poster on the genealogy board, will have a few others when he see your question. Also understand each state in the U.S. has its own laws about who, when and where a person can obtain death certificate information on other people. So any thing recent is covered by their privacy laws unless you are next of kin.

Depends on where you are looking at. Sometimes if you get lucky and know the area you are looking in you can research that areas historical society and every now and then you will find a free site. Missouri, US has been the best I've found yet, unfortunately just the one so far.

Death and Birth CERTIFICATES are not in most cases available on line "free". You can find information from a death index, which provides the name, date and place of death on county records or possibly the Social Security Death Index.
