yup. That's true italian pizza. what we consider pizza here is completely opposite. Most of the time, they don't even use sauce at all, and is usually veggies.

I had a similar experience. At a place my host said was the best pizza in town, I had asked for peperoni and they didn't know what that was. I did get decent sausage though. Part of it is to expected as in the US, meat is often the only thing people eat, it is more expensive there and they use smaller portions. If you look at the food, diet and calorie guides, a serving of meat is only 4 ounces.

HAHA. yes that is what they call pizza. It originated there, remember? You are just spoiled by pizza hut or dominoes. There is nothing like a wonderful bianca neve pizza or a margherita, fresh from a brick oven with fresh basil and a sprinkle of parmesan. The flour for the crust and italian bread is sooo good. Too bad you didn't like it. When I lived in Sicily they even had hard boiled eggs on pizza. OK< that one was not my favorite.
