I know this sounds kind of cheesy, but I try to look at the positive things in my life, and I get on yahoo answers and try to help people who need advice, it usually helps put things in perspective for me. Those are just a couple of my strategies, I hope i helped. Good luck to you :)

Like always, you need to look at things from different perspectives. For this case, you need to see that there are always going to be people who have pain that is much more worse than yours so in corresponding contrast, you need to think gratefully for not having it worse and for having other advantages and great experiences in your life.

Nostalgia kicks in, and I'm back in the good ol' days. For me, that means Pokemon in the '90s.

If I am feeling teary, I don't stop myself. I have a good cry and I feel so much lighter and cleansed :). It gives me the ability to start again. I also just hang in there...and let it roll out of my way. I don't try to fight it. I give myself some time to let out all the complaints and pity on the world and myself, and then I try to adopt healthy thinking or a healthier perspective (eg. telling myself that no one is perfect). Sometimes, just chatting with someone also helps to distract yourself. I sometimes go watch a movie so I have a chance to delve into another story. But I make sure am aware that whatever it is that is bothering me, doesn't get covered or numbed out with those distractions....I am gonna have to face it and look for solutions if it's possible. Writing things out in a journal also helps.
