Get the Subaru. Cheaper parts. Not that nicer inside but it will be more reliable and you do not have to sell some mutual funds for ordinary repairs.

Funny you want reliability and you instantly eliminated all of the most reliable vehicles you mentioned. An X3 or X5 with 100K+ miles would be a huge mistake. These are not the staple of reliability and upkeep cost on them is through the roof. The Volvo is a glorified Ford that is more costly to maintain. The Lexus is going to be fine as long as you don't buy someone else's problem. Personally, I would go with the newest Forester with the lowest miles that you can afford. The Tribeca is ridiculous looking.

The Volvo is not bad actually. The only downside is the complexity of the vehicle, which is more difficult to work on and the parts. But other than that it has positive reviews in consumer reports for being a dependable vehicle. But out of that list the Subaru Forester is the best. The Tribeca looks ridiculous, the front looks like a modern day representation of the hideous Ford Edsel. The Euro SUVs will have expensive parts. The Lexus is not bad actually, but Subaru has a more proven AWD system.
