Your only hope for sure is to get rid of the tree. My in-laws had that same problem and once they got rid of the tree they had no more problems with the plumbing. They hated to cut it down after so many years but it was costing them lots of $$ same as you.

You can try to encase the area with concrete, However if any water is leaking the roots will eventually find the source. Best fix (without removing the tree) is to replace the leaking section of pipe. The roots will continue to grow in air.
