If you have a good idea, and you don't have a whole lot of money, maybe it's better to contact a big company that makes games. The amount of man hours that go in the creation of a successful MMORPG is mind boggling. If you do everything yourself, you may be finished when you're ready to retire. And since all technology will have changed so much, you'll have to rewrite everything from scratch again, redesign graphics, ... If you have a good idea, you either sell it for big money, or you have money, create your own company and hire people to help you create it. Both cases, you don't really need to learn how to program because others -experts- will do it for you ;-)

Hum ok, well I have no clue about Unity I would suggest finding an official user guide for it, and some skill sets you want is: Advanced coding (depending on what you want the game too look like and do), you need to be creative because its going to take quite a while to fully develop the game and you want to always have fresh ideas, Patience is also a highly needed skill. I would also look into graphic design a little bit to learn some of the 3D model prospects. Again coding is a big part of it, controls ect. I would enlist the help of multiple people because there are a lot of parts that you can't do alone. Animation would probably help too! Because I'm sure you want the movements to be solid. Art is also a big part, to make models you need to know the look. You're going to have a lot of concept art to go along with the models. but yeah coding, coding, and more coding is what you primarily need (forgot to mention music for soundtracks).

If you're not on a team you're going to need a polished skills in every single department from: 3d modeling, programming, server-client programming, database knowledge, cybersecurity knowledge, an incredible amount of mathematics knowledge, level design and more. More being legal knowledge, marketing and etc. Unity3d offers you a canvas for your Mmorpg. I'm currently working on one right now in Unity but I'm just a programmer so I'll only have the underlying core until a snag an artist and level designer.

Blah Blah Blah does anyone have a real answer. Nothing anyone said is gonna help. Look up tutorail for unity on Youtube. As for tools your I think your also gonna need a 3d model editor. Blender is free but not my favorite pick. I use Lightwave3d . I pick Milkshape because it is great for beginners. Next a good paint program Gimp or Paint shop Pro. I don't use unity. I use Nuclear Basic and Blitz3d Much Much easier to learn and 10 times quicker to make a game with then Unity http://www.nuclearglory.com If you stick to it you'll be making video games in a week or two. random nuclear basic youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t02XacfnnaM&feature=c4-overview&list=UULTjX-ATohgimLEfitByfGw
