Who cares how original it is? It's how epic it is that's what captivates us. Sure, there are plenty of books about schools of magic and good vs evil but can you say that they have all succeeded exploring/exploiting/whatyoucallit those themes? (plus most of them are inspired by Harry Potter anyway) Anyway Harry Potter isn't just about magic and bad people fighting. There's love, politics, friendship, high school life, racism, annoying people, etc etc plus a heck of a plot.

The stile. It is hard to explain. Very large numbers of kids bought the book and read and do read them. That is stile! And as parents said. If we can get them to read we don't care if we like the book or not. A great author has a stile that sells books because people wish to read them. And that is a great artist with a pen. Like his works or not!
