Neither is a particularly great field to have a degree in, to be honest with you, however an art degree may have a few more opportunities than a music degree would.

neither are practical

Neither. Go to a university where you can do joint honours in any subjects. For example, at my uni you can do music and accountancy, english and finance ...whatever. Combine what you love with a subject that has reasonable employment prospects. Even ten years ago a music or art degree had little value. Today, the jobs market is tough you'll get nowhere with an arts degree. Okay, you might but you'd be the lucky 1%. Hedge your bets and pair either art or music with something more weighty. I graduated this year and did arts with finance. Hardly anyone I know from the arts side has gotten a job. From the finance side, most people are employed. Good luck!
