Put a layer of manure on top for the worms to take down. Rough dig for the frost to break down the clods. Not a lot else to do except order your onion sets, shallots, potatoes ready to plant in the spring. Also order rest of your seeds from comfort of arm chair. Sow garlic outdoors. Start off peppers indoors. Prune apple and pear trees whilst dormant. Do not prune plums as they should be done in the summer to avoid disease.

Mostly depends on where you live. If your soil is stil frozen @a start of spring, wait till it thaws more. Then till it up to loosen soil. In the winter grow a ground cover that can be tilled in @ spring to replenish lost nutrients. When night temps are concistantly in the mid-50s, you can start some seed indoors. But most seeds can be directly planted in the bed.

In the UK? Plant broad beans over the New Year , good exercise to burn off the beer fumes and also if they grow through frost they don't suffer from aphids and black-fly. You could also be harvesting your sprouts now. Rake and burn as much detritus as you can, stop the pests and diseases having a warm home.
