Hebrews 11:1-12 KJV 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

Faith is based on past experience, whereas imagination has no grounding. For instance, because God met me and rescued me from a self-destructive lifestyle when I was in my mid-20's, I have faith to trust Him for my future. On the other hand, atheists really have nothing on which to base their belief in evolution. They see nothing, they experience nothing, they blindly trust what others say, even though these others never saw or experienced anything either. Now THAT is what I call a strong belief in one's own imagination! N

Faith is being stuck in the mud, with no possibility of taking flight and learning something new. As exemplified by the religious belief in ancient myth and superstition, and its inability to accept the findings of science that are in conflict with that belief. Imagination is taking flight and investigating new possibilities and learning new realities. As exemplified by Einstein's flights of imagination that resulted in his theory of relativity, which ushered in a new age of scientific findings and technology that drastically changed society.

Faith is the pretense that imagination is real. Faith is a failing, a demonstration of weakness. It is illogical to believe in anything against the facts. Faith is no virtue.

It’s very easy to say the other side of whatever debate you’re having is ignorant, naïve or gullible to believe whatever they believe. It’s simplistic and superficial, as well.. Religion has a very deep, very complicated and varied history. According to Wikipedia, over 90% of people in the world, in over 200 countries, belong to a religion. I can’t know what experiences, feelings, thoughts or history of those 7 billion people. I’ve learned through the years that I know what I think and believe about things and I can’t judge anyone else for what they think and believe, unless they are harming others. We come from different cultures, different backgrounds, different understandings. So sorry, if you want a rise out of me, you’re not going to get it. As a Baha’i, a member of the Baha’i Faith, I try to understand everyone’s point of view and think we can come together in peace and unity if we stop trying to inflict our beliefs on others. Bahai.org
