i had this happen to me as well when i was 15 and even till today my nail is brittle( i'm 37) although the weeks spot down the middle doesn't split mine only breaks at the weak spot when it gets to 4 mm in length then tears down the side into the fleshy nail bed . as a teenager while the nails was still very weak (it will get stronger but it remains brittle ) i found that wearing false nails helps hold the nail together and stop it from splitting, so when i wasn't wearing false nails it painted the liquid acrylic and the acrylic powder onto that nail to keep it strong (the liquid acrylic will sting a little on the exposed nail bed but it won't harm it) you could also try the gel nails but as i haven't tried it i'm not sure how effective it is.
