I have always used "work wife" or "work husband" to refer to the person I am closest to at work. That person that I click with so we work well together, talk about things (work related and not), and just spend a lot of time with at work. Usually that relationship doesn't spill over at all into my home life, hence them being a work spouse and not an actual friend.

A man you work with and have a relationship with, a platonic one. A lot of us spend more time with our co workers than our families. We have relationships with people and they are close ones sometimes. People we talk to and confide in. Some people cross the line into inappropriate but most of us do not.

An inappropriate relationship a woman makes with a man she works with. If either of them is in a relationship, it cuts into that. These situations also (more often than not, according to a survey at WebMD) lead to a physical relationship that can cause issues on the job even for people who are single.
