A black hole is an object in space, like a star, that is so incredibly massive and dense, that not even light photons can escape its gravitational pull. As a result, we can't see what it looks like, so it is just black, and some things that are far enough away from it can orbit around it.

A black hole is a region of space-time in which space-time is curved so heavily that not even light can escape it once it has exceeded passed the event horizon of the black hole. Black holes are the result of a massive star collapsing under itself.
