It depends on where you sit compared to the speaker...Idealy the speaker should be 30 to 45 degrees behind the ideal seating position and just slightly above a normal seated persons ears for 5.1 surround... In a 7.1 system the rear speakers should be behind the seated listener and the side speakers directly to the side...position differs also with the number of seating positions you have..Check out the Dolby web site they have some diagrams available for speaker placement also DTS they also have their placement theories....Depending on where you sit I might place the speaker on the side wall above the window 6 to 9 inches from the back wall but I also would do a better job of channeling the speaker wire...run wire race way around the door and or window or along the ceiling line you can also using decorative molding or base board that has been hollowed out to hide the wire and make your windows and doors more operative.....and just the whole system more functional and neat looking.....also use a better high quality speaker wire that you can run in longer lengths....

well you already have holes there... but two L brackets from home depot mounted on each side and turning the speaker horizontal, mounting it to the sealing at a 30 degree angle and towards the seating area would be nice.

Id not mount close to a corner or ceiling unless there was a specific sonic reason to do so. I would also dress my wiring properly.
