try rebuilding the carb, 2 bbl's are pretty simple to rebuild.

Then you find out why it's not idling properly and fix the problem(s). If you cannot fix it yourself, take it to someone that can...

If it won't idle, the most likely issue is that the idle jet is clogged (the small one). If you don't know how to work on it, please don't try. Might pour raw gas down the throat, a tsp at a time, while trying to start it -- might manage to dissolve the gum. Could spray starter fluid (ether) down the throat, in two second bursts, starting in between bursts -- this dissolves gum, but is hard on the rings, walls, etc.
