Pasties are a famous (Usually U.P.) food here in Michigan. The entire mid west is known for it's "comfort food". We like things saucy and usually very fattening. Not that we don't eat healthy every now and then. I have grown up on BIG breakfasts, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, stews, all different kinds of cooked meats. Basically anything that can be cooked in a crock pot or over a camp fire that can be hunted for or caught out of the many lakes and rivers is typical for Michiganders. Food that you would love to eat on a really cold day is probably something that's cooked in Michigan a lot too.

Michigan is a mixing pot of many cultures. There are strong middle eastern, polish, thia, chinese, italian, finnish, german communities in the state with staples for each. Something that is a little more unique to michigan might be Morel mushrooms with restraunts that cater specifically to them. We also have fresh fish that resides in the great lakes.
