Nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas", does not put you to sleep or make you high. It simply helps to make you very relaxed. If that's what they use, there will be no "waiting period" for it to go away. After the procedure they turn the gas off and you're back to breathing regular oxygen. If you want to be fully "out", you need to discuss that with the dentist or surgeon who will be doing the extraction.

It makes everyone feel differently. I had all four wisdom teeth pulled, and I also wanted to be put to sleep, but apparently it's not recommended and usually not allowed in most dentist offices because of potential complications that the "surgery" can cause. When they put on the laughing gas, I started to get a weird pressure behind my eyes, and started talking about really random stuff. I didn't really start laughing or anything, but it's like I went stupid. I was completely aware of everything going on during the surgery though. I don't remember much after the surgery, but I remember taking the pain pills they prescribed four hours afterwards, and I woke up "sober". Laughing gas was definitely an interesting experience, and you probably won't remember too much.
