that is where the saying comes from " Yorkshire bred- strong in arm and thick in head

I've never liked this saying but I think it does mean that Yorkshire folk (like me !) are arrogant and won't let anyone else have an opinion, which is wrong of course.

Your description is accurate. However the Yorkshire Dales provides some of the best walking country I've visited.
