Nothing from you except a call to the relevant provider of these services however I don't think this applies to gas. Call your gas provider and tell them because their bills are so high you are thinking of taking your business to the opposition, it worked for me.

A fitter comes to your house - switches off the electricity for about 20 minutes while he removes your old electricity meter and fits a new one. Then he does exactly the same for gas - changes your old gas meter for a new one. Then he explains to you how it works and how to use the hand held monitor and leaves' Obviously he needs fairly easy access to both meters so you might need to move a few things around the meters but other than that (and loosing the services for a short time) it is no inconvenience to you at all. I suppose he was about 1.5 hours in total from arrival to departure.

Brian C has it about right,it will also involve turning off your gas appliances but we do re-light them afterwards and carry out a visual safety check of your boiler etc. I don't know why I got the thumbs down from somebody
