Probably normal. The newer Accord has a more powerful engine in it. I'm guessing that the extra engine grunt is the reason.

I doubt it is anything to worry about unless the engine is idling really fast when it happens. Your older model has a transmission that's got some miles on it which could make a small difference but as long as your mother's isn't jumping when you shift it into D its nothing to be concerned about. To put your mind at ease take it to a dealer and have them check it, its still under warranty.

This is because the transmission torque converter has a lower stall speed in Accord.

Your transmission is probably weak since it has miles on it. I have a 99 accord and you will probably have to change the transmission fluid. But don't worry about it most old model accords are 4 cylinder. And newer models are 6 so the engine power has a lot to do with it
