Any kind of cleaning WILL ruin them. They may be shiny again, for a short while, but they will never look new. Any wear they already have will still be there and shiny, worn coins do NOT look good. They have an unnatural, unattractive appearance. Silver coins are not the same thing as silver flatware and tableware that requires occasional polishing, and they are not to be treated the same way.

since they are silver they are probably just tarnished so i wouldn't do anything to them because anything that will take off the dirt/tarnish will probably have acid which could damage your silver.

I agree that cleaning them is the wrong thing to do if you want to keep their value, but if you don't and you just want to clean them, here's an article about how to do it safely: Best of luck.

Do not clean them if you don't want to risk ruining them. Part of their value is in the natural discoloration that occurs with age.
