First you need to set yourself a budget. Do you want to spend several hundred or several thousands dollars. Second - what type of camera are you interested in. > Point and Shoot > Bridge Camera > Or DSLR?

Do you want a Compact, a Bridge or a DSLR. That is the thing you need to decide. Then what budget do you have? The best Canon camera will cost about £6000 ($9000?) or you can buy a compact for around £100 ($140?) Go into a store and check out the various types; see what they do and ask questions; then pick the one that feels right for you.

Canon certainly is a good brand, as are Nikon, Sony, Pentax, and a few others. But almost you should decide what type of camera (DSLR, compact, CSC, Bridge) before thinking of brand.

The EOS series if the best series in Canon. And if you would like a suggestion for which camera you should buy, you should buy the Canon 600D. Which is also known as the Canon Rebel T3i
