Better late than never. "Wrong" no; Useful for hosts planning purposes; depends on how late. Call to expedite, apologize for tardy response; and give response.

Rsvp means you need to confirm on the given date so that the host of the party will adjust his/her other pending guest who wants to come but can't be invited because of limited slots/reserved chairs.

Eja, your friends birthday party is today, and you forgot to RSVP. How can you forget your friends birthday party? ick up the phone and call, see if there is room for one more, and while you at it apologise.
