yes pasta dishes used to be dirt cheap and now they are almost as pricey as meat dishes

It really depends where you live, but for the most part (especially in big cities like NYC, LA, San Francisco, etc.), dining has become very expensive. At least it's an incentive to learn how to cook

Yeah, my budget won't allow me to eat at restaurants very often. My dad, on the other hand, is loaded and eats at restaurants at least 3 nights a week. He usually takes an employee and/or discusses work so it's a tax write off.

One problem with having a restaurant is that most "owners" do not own the building but, lease it and the terms of the lease may change, also utilities increase as does labor, insurance and supplies. So, to stay in business they have to raise the cost of your meal. I don't eat in restaurants much anymore as I am on a fixed income but, even though I cook at home it's hard to make a meal for even one person for less than $7.
