You can tax this online as I do. There is an automatic check on MOT and insurance. . Tax it, then take out a new Insurance in your name when you receive the tax disc. Mine came in 2 days. Alternatively, do it at the Post Office. UK

I can't see that you can use your father's insurance (unless it is for any driver or named driver as yourself). I would sort this out with insurance company first! Otherwise you will be driving whilst un-insured with all the implications of that. You should be able to get the log book transferred into your name quite easily. You seem to be more or less there and should be able to check it out with DVLA. The DVLA have some local offices, I think, so try and get a personal visit (like we have a DVLA office in Sidcup,Kent.)
