It started at 6:30 pm on a Friday night. The ceremony lasted about 20-25 minutes, and it all ended around 11pm. Or at least it did for my husband and I :) Pretty much, aside from the terrible weather that made us have to move it inside. There were a couple other things that went wrong, but no biggie. I married my husband, that was all I cared about. Our ceremony was completely unexpected though. My husband's dad was our officiant, and he wrote a ceremony for us that was completely unique and beautiful. We didn't get to know any of the details until the day of, and we were so pleasantly surprised. I have never heard such a beautiful, personalized ceremony. It was such a gift. Our budget was $5000ish. We had around 105 guests We had children there. We have two nephews, and wanted them to be there. It wouldn't have been right to allow them and no other children. All the kids were gone by 9 though. My husband is a musician, and we spent about 6 months putting together an amazing playlist for the reception, so that was our music/entertainment. We considered having my husband's band play, but wanted him to just enjoy himself. We also had an open bar, and that was entertainment enough for most people. It was fun. I actually really wanted to just get married at the courthouse and go on a honeymoon, but our families very much wanted us to have a wedding, so we did. It was great fun, but I would have been just as happy without the full-on wedding.

Ceremony at 1:00pm (Started at about 2:30 due to the guys playing video games and not getting themselves together on time). I think the reception was from 4pm to 9pm. Budget was about $6000 for everything (back in the '90's) but we paid considerably less than that because it was March which isn't very busy for weddings. My father gave us $1500 and we paid for everything else ourselves. About 100 guests. We actually had a few people who didn't show up, and my brother and sis-in-law were having marital issues and said the wouldn't come but showed up anyway. Then my aunt and her husband showed up with my cousin (who I'm not close to at all and haven't seen since I was a kid) along with his girlfriend, their three kids, and another friend. This was supposed to be an adult reception. Thank goodness for the people who didn't show up because they'd all be sitting on the floor. But the numbers somehow balanced out in the end. Our reception was at a catering hall, so we had a master of ceremonies from the hall plus a friend of one of the groomsmen who was the dj. I'm the kind of person who doesn't like a lot of fuss, so I wanted to go to city hall, but we wound up having a church ceremony and catered reception because of his family and friends who would have got on his case about not being invited. We married in the month of March which is normally still winter temps where we live, but we got an unusually warm and sunny day, lower 60's. It was a much better than I expected and a lot of fun. Can't say that there's anything that I would have done differently. No regrets.
