Three years is a drop in the bucket. If you pay alimony, it's likely to only be for 18 months or so. Hardly worth the stress of a battle or elaborate scheme. Go along to get along and it'll all be over in next to no time at all.

tl;dr No, don't fake your death. Just divorce. Life goes on. You will be better in about 3-6 months after the divorce. You'll make more money, just get out and be free. You won't be free in jail.
