It is still difficult for me to talk about it so this answer has to be short. I was married to a man I loved very much, we lived 3 houses away from each other and were married when we turned 21. Later he was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, no meds back then just mega vitamin therapy, he wouldn't get help as he thought he was right and the rest of the world was wrong. After several years we had a baby, by then he barely worked and would become catatonic when stressed like when I came home from the hospital after having a caesarian. Push came to shove and I realized that I was barely able to take care of my baby and still handle my job, I was no longer able to take care of my husband no matter how much I loved him. I felt so guilty because I knew he was sick and I truly believe people should stay married through sickness and in health. My daughter is now 38 years old, it was difficult being a single Mom but I know I made the right decision for our survival. His family had already decided they needed distance from him due to the negative experiences that kept getting worse, holidays were dreaded as we never knew what would happen and hoping for the best was not effective at all.
