Wholesale retailers are often times more expensive than a traditional gracery store because you buy in bulk. The advantage of traditional store is you buy what you need and stores like Kroger's often have great sales and you can use coupons.

Kroger. I wouldn't shop at Sam's, as a college student, unless I was buying a bulk of tissue, paper towels, soap, etc or having a bbq

First start with Kroger for the Basic, then start comparing prices these on bulk, you'll first will not see a lot of savings, but when you do a list, you will have some of the items on hand

I'm a college student and also on a budget. I shop at Wal-Mart mostly, the main items I buy is pasta, rice and beans. These three items last a long time and are really easy to store. You can cook the portions easily to one person or more, also they give you the freedom of change. Add sauces and frozen veggies to your pasta, use the same veggies add those to your rice with maybe a little soy sauce. Try your beans with a little cheese and either fritos or a tortilla. Also make sweet rice or fried rice, cold pasta for on the go and chili beans on a cold night. I hope this helps you. I know it is difficult but buying these three items in bulk will hopefully save you some money. PS Crockpots are also a lovely addition to coming home to a warm meal.
