Any special marking would mean that #1 cylinder is at top dead centre. There are also alignment marks on the new belt to coincide with the camshaft positioned at top dead centre. I have replaced the timing belt on a Renault 19 Chamade previously, but it was a breeze. I did it with the help of a Haynes manual. With no references I would not attempt to finish this task.
