Ask about transmission, regular oil changes, previous wrecks, etc. KBB value is $2800 so $2,500 may be a good deal, or there is a hidden expense of some sort.

As about services on the car. ask if anything has had to be replaced. When looking under the bonnet check the dipsticks for the fluid levels and the colours, this will tell you if it has had regular changes. Also ask if there is anything wrong with the car. It may seem like a stupid thing to do but most sellers will be honest with you. Mitsubishi eclipses are actually really reliable cars and I would definitely recommend one for a first car.

The car is fine and has very low miles for its age, but that means it sit almost all the time. You need to ask how many miles the car had when they bought to see how much they drove it. How often the changed the oil. A 15 year old car should have over 150k miles so that car wasnt driven much, and the oil wasnt changed often unless they have proof it was. Honestly if the car drives and shifts smooth and has no leaks or weird fumes from the exhaust or no signs of things broken, then buy it. For that price and milage you cant find better. Generally the cars dont have many problems many teens own them. If you do get the 5 speed make sure it doesnt grind and that the clutch gets traction closer to the ground, low miles like that the clutch should be fine for another 70k miles. Make sure to look for oil leaks, and also make sure that you start the car cold to listen for ticks and weird motor noises that go away when the car warms up. A little valve ticking isnt bad for
