You need a Power of Attorney from your BF and make sure that it states that you are able to pay and deal with things like his credit cards and other bills. Then you need to just FAX the POA to Walmart's credit department and you'll be able to take care of things. This article from explains the different kinds of POAs:

You can not add yourself to his credit card. Only he can do that and even if he did you would only be an authorized user. While they don't care who makes the payments the money has to still reach them on time. If they claim it didn't then yes, they will charge you a late fee. Trust me... this money did not reach them on time. You may have sent it off on the day it was due... but what counts is when they got it and that did not happen before the due date. Even if you went to a payment center and paid it on the due day... it takes up to 3 business days before it is credited to the account. Next time pay at least 5 days before the money was due and welcome to the world of credit.

if you mean by paying it early that you paid it in the previous billing cycle they will still be looking for the Dec payment on the 15th. I had this happen with a hospital bill many years ago,I owed 600 and I made arrangements to pay 15.00 per month, most months I paid 35-50 so when Sept came since I had already paid over 300 since January I didn't make a payment as I thought I was ahead, they turned it over to collections and sent me a late notice. I didn't understand how it worked at that time. so if that is what you did, then they didn't apply it to Dec but to Nov
