Well the gas leak must be prior to the gas controls. Not sure about the cold air but can not tell whether you have a boiler or a forced air furnace or both.

The furnace can't keep up heating so it gets colder and t-stat never satisfies that's why it makes the unit in lockout makes the fan blow cold air so when you walk by you know you got problems......
